Yes, GW works fine on a Mac. You simply use Bootcamp to install Windows XP/Vista/7 first.
There are also some OSX based utilities (Wine?, Crossover, etc.) that can allow you to emulate the required parts of Windows, but they don't work as well. If your Mac is powerful enough though, the emulators work well enough.

I use bootcamp on,mine. If you run it for too long (to many hours) the game freezes and then you get snow and you have to reboot. I've already taken it to the apple store to get it checked out...I believe it to be a windows issue.

I personally use CrossoverGames. There's a fee (though getting an operating system, on the other hand, for your partitioned drive can't be cheap) and it was a little buggy at first, in the capacity of rendering armor and objects; some would extend across the screen or glow bright silver. Those have gone away though, so I assume they patched it. No freezes, no limit on gameplay or what-have-you.
Having played GW on a PC also, I'd say I wouldn't even know the difference.

I play using CrossoverGames as well and I have to say that there is next to no difference for me when playing on my windows 7 partition or my OSX partition. Therefore I just use CrossoverGames since I'd rather play on OSX and use all of my normal stuff.

Been playing GW on my mac for six months now using a Cider port I found somewhere on internet. It´s not as stable (occasional crashes) as I ´d wish and has some minor glitches with graphics but otherwise works fine. Can´t use texmods with it I think, though.
Cider was easy to set up and free but there might be better alternatives around, including using Bootcamp if you own a copy of Windows.
I´m install Windows on my computer to get my cartographer texmod and play some other games too.

I've been playing using Crossover Games on my Macbook Pro 13 or the past 2 years. It works perfectly for me.

I'd personally use bootcamp. I used it for at least 4 years. Bootcamp itself is free, super easy to get a partition setup (no reformatting OS X) but all you'd need to do is get a copy of Windows. We will assume legal copy.
As long as you're not on an Intel GMA graphics set or the Radeon x1600 set, you should be good. The only reason I say x1600 chipset is because after 4 years, lots of users are experiencing issues with this GPU because they used the wrong soldier to put the memory controller on the board, resulting in extreme amounts of artifacts even not playing a game when the system heats up. This causes OS X to actually lock up, and if in Windows, causes an immediate BSOD.
My Mac suffers from this defect, but, luckily turning the fans up keeps it cool enough to continue to operate normally. I do not game on it anymore.
